Occupation of Paris to unify Germany

On January 28, 1871, Paris collapsed after 5 months of resistance against the German forces commanded by Bismarck and the French military men and government surrendered to German forces. A treaty was signed between Bismarck, German Chancellor who supposedly perpetrated the war for unifying Germany and Adolf Tier, a French authority who later became the prime minister. In the peace agreement that was signed 2 months later France was committed to pay $5 million to Germany. Despite surrender of government forces to German Army, people in southern Paris and other cities established resistance forces that led to Paris Commune.
