EU Court keeps Iran group off terror list

AP, Brussels, 21 Dec 2011 – The European Union’s highest court has rejected a French appeal and kept a leading Iran opposition group off the EU terror list.
The Luxembourg-based European Court of Justice said in Wednesday’s ruling that it confirmed a 2008 lower court ruling that EU governments violated the rights of defense of the People’s Mujahedeen Organization of Iran, and that the EU nations had not provided sufficient proof to blacklist the group.
In January 2009, the European Union decided to remove the Iranian opposition group from its terror list and lift the restrictions on its funds. France had appealed that decision.
