Iraqis councils and associations condemn Maliki’s violation of Ashraf -Liberty residents’ property rights

The Iraqi National Tribal Council and democratic forces condemn Maliki government’s violation of Ashraf and Liberty residents’ rights over property ownership. They called on the United Nations and United States to play their role and ensure the residents’ rights and protections.

Iraqi National Tribal Council Statement: Today, Iraq has become a victim in the hands of elements of the Iranian regime and its brutal and corrupt gangs. The Maliki government intends to plunder the property of PMOI members in Iraq, while Ashraf and Liberty residents are the true owners of their property. It is not appropriate, in our wealthy country, for the Iraqi Government to plunder the assets of our defenseless guests.

Nainawa Tribal Council Statement: Looting and plundering PMOI members’ property is a disrespect to our guests and an insult to the Iraqi people in general and tribal sheikhs in the Nainawa Province in particular. Such an act is contrary to Arabic traditions and values. It is only in favor of the mullahs’ regime in Iran. The Iraqi Government disregards Ashraf residents’ rights to ownership over their moveable and immovable property in violation of Articles 1120 and 1121 of the Civil Code. We know that thousands of Ashraf residents, working hard at Ashraf City for over 26 years, collected what is now worth up to hundreds of millions of dollars, and it belongs to them. We strongly condemn the Iraqi Government’s plots and programs. The policy of silence in the face of the Iraqi Government’s obstructions is a legal cover-up to confiscate and plunder the residents’ property.

Students’ Solidarity Association Statement: The Iraqi Government, in addition to the inhumane siege on members of the PMOI, is hastily trampling their rights in an attempt to confiscate their moveable and immovable property. To this end, relevant international organs must take up all their legal and humanitarian responsibilities so that the PMOI, without the Iraqi Government’s embezzlement, can sell their property.

National Intellectuals Society Statement: We condemn an intervention by the Iraqi Government relating to the Ashraf and Liberty residents’ property, since such an act is only intended to please the Iranian regime. We know and bear witness that Ashraf residents have gathered their property during their 26-year stay in the Diyala Province, and have ownership rights over their moveable and immovable property.

Windows of Hope Organization Statement: We call on the UN to not allow the Iraqi Government to intervene in the Ashraf residents’ property. We express our utter protest to such pressures and illegal claims regarding their property, acknowledging it as a deceptive trick.

Shams Human Rights Organization Statement: It is the right of Ashraf and Liberty residents to freely sell their property and belongings, and the Iraqi Government has no right to intervene in this issue. They have expensed over $500 million for this property, yet the Iraqi Government, intending to please the Iranian regime, seeks to loot the property. We condemn any pressure and limitation imposed by Iraqi authorities on Ashraf and Liberty residents, especially regarding their property. We call on the UN to urgently intervene in this regard and defend PMOI’s rights.
