With meetings continuing among Syrian opposition members in Doha, the Syrian National Council elected George Sabra as its new leader, Al Jazeera TV reported.
Sabra is a Syrian Christian who spent 8 years in Assad’s dungeons.
“We must focus all our activities and efforts on overthrowing the Assad regime as soon as possible,” he said after his election.
“The utmost duty is to make the Syrian people able to defend themselves and their children, and equipping the Free Syrian Army with weapons so we can bring an end to this bloodbath,” he added.
