Iraqi leaders in talks of ‘no-confidence vote’ against Maliki

Iraq News Agency, Baghdad, 24 Nov 2012 – A source close to former Iraqi premier Ayad Allawi said Iraqi President Jalal Talabani and Kurdistan Regional Government President Massud Barzani are in talks of a ‘no-confidence’ vote against Maliki, adding Barzani has called on Allawi to join the talks and Allawi has placed one condition. Muqtada Sadr has also indicated he agrees in principle with the measure, the source continued.
“There are talks in process between Talabani and Barzani on a no-confidence vote against Maliki,” the source said to the Iraqi News Agency.
“Massud Barzani has requested Allawi to join their meeting in Arbil while Allawi has placed a condition for his participation, saying to the two Kurdish leaders he will only join once a specific decision has been agreed upon,” he added.
“Sadr movement leader Muqtada Sadr also gave a green light after returning to Najaf, showing his agreement with the no-confidence vote project against Maliki to be restarted,” the source continued.
“The 40 votes remain ready,” Sadr said.
