The “Azzaman” international Arab language daily on Saturday Feb. 2, reported from Baquba Iraq that demonstrators in Baquba called for arrest and trial of Diyala’s headsman in international tribunal, and chanted against the rule of armed militias.

The demonstration was held in the main streets of Baquba, capital of Diyala province, and people called for ousting Ghanem al-Qoraishi, the Diyala police chief, to be immediately put on trial.

An independent security source said: Qoraishi is accused of arbitrary arrests and handing them over to armed militias which are active in Diyala.

An Iraqi officer, who is the commander of one of army unites fighting against Al-Qaeda and armed militias affiliated with the terrorist Qods Force of IRGC in Diyala, testified on TV that he was arrested by police under command of Qoraishi and was exposed to in various types of torture and rape. The officer said: after his testimony on TV, some Ghoraishi’s men threatened him. Most of police commanders are recruited under control of influential militias and governmental decision making bodies.

The paper reminded that last year the US officers had said that Iraqi police is corrupt and militias dedicate themselves high military ranks.
