Torture and vicious behavior towards a female political prisoner by the name of Arezu Ghebal-Azraghash has continued for over four years in various prisons throughout the country. She has been recently transferred to the notorious Shahr-e Ray Prison, southeast of Tehran. Born in 1985 in the western Iranian Kurdish city of Mahabad near the Iran-Iraq border region of Piranshahr, this political prisoner was arrested in 2007 and transferred to solitary confinement of an Intelligence Ministry prison in Orumieh, northwestern Iran. There she was placed under physical and psychological torture, along with interrogations being carried out by intelligence officials.
Intelligence Ministry interrogators used the following methods of medieval torture against her: depriving her of sleep for long periods; forcing her to stand upright for long hours causing her to go unconscious on numerous occasions; vicious physical torture by punching, kicking, continuous and long lasting blows with a baton causing her genitals to become seriously wounded along with severe bleeding. She received 27 stitches for her wounds.
