The US Senate Armed Forces Committee chaired by Senator John McCain held a hearing on Wednesday, July 29 on the nuclear agreement with Iran. In this hearing US Secretary of State John Kerry, Secretary of Energy Ernst Moniz and Secretary of Defense Ashton Carter and Joint Chiefs of Staff General Martin Dempsey took part and answered the senators’ questions.
Senator John McCain warned the nuclear agreement and releasing Iran’s frozen assets will allow this regime to strengthen its military and terrorist activities. He also issued a warning about the regime’s ballistic missiles. Senator McCain warned about a classified agreement between the International Atomic Energy Agency and Iran on how to conduct the inspections on military sites.
US Defense Secretary Carter said this deal doesn’t take the military option off the table for the US. He said the US will be supporting its allies in the Middle East in the face of Iran’s destabilizing measures, referring to the terrorist threats made by Lebanese Hezbollah as one such example.
General Martin Dempsey said the nuclear agreement doesn’t stop Iran’s secret and malevolent activities. He described sending weapons to mercenaries and proxy forces, expanding ballistic missiles and cyber activities as examples of Iran’s malevolent actions.
