
Following political maneuvers that took place to introduce Maliki as candidate for Prime Ministry, Iraqiya, the national Iraqi parliamentary coalition who came out victorious in March’s elections held a session, issuing the below statement:
“The Iraqiya fraction held a general meeting with the participation of its leaders, members of the parliamentary fractions and the coordinating committee, discussing the country’s current political crisis.
The attendees agreed on the following issues:
1- Iraqiya is more than ever unified and integrated, and with regard to all the hardship it is facing, more than ever emphasizes on its national plan and the change that the people have voted for. It sees all other efforts and methods to dominate the government as illegal, not recognizing nor cooperating with them.
2- Iraqiya rejects all foreign interference in influencing the government formation through un-Iraqi methods and it will not give in to the tendencies which aim to form government regardless to the will of the people of Iraq. It will continue its efforts in forming a government that coincides with the will of the Iraqi people and will bring about national participation.
3- Iraqiya underscored its previous position in not participating in a government that Nouri Maliki is PM, and announced it insists on its legal and election rights and will not step down from it.
