US MUST not be accomplice to Maliki’s bloodbath in Camp Ashraf

The Washington Times, 2 Dec 2011

President Obama! Make it clear to Maliki that displacement of Ashraf residents in Iraq and December 31 deadline is not acceptable.
President Obama,
UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon,

Dear President Obama,
Dear Secretary General Ban Ki-moon,
My name is Mahin Saremi, 52 years of age. I am a former political prisoner, recently escaped from Iran.
I was one of the organizers of the 2009 protests in Iran. The ruthless execution of my husband did not stop me from wishing and struggling for FREEDOM.
FREEDOM is our ideal. Is it a crime to wish for FREEDOM?
My husband, Ali Saremi was the most prominent political prisoner in Iran. He was executed on December 28, 2010 after 24 years of incarceration for supporting the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (MEK/PMOI) and visiting our son Akbar in Ashraf. He was charged with Moharebeh (waging war against God).
In a kangaroo trial on January 10, 2011, that lasted only a few minutes, I was condemned to 10 years of imprisonment , charged with “acting against national security” and “visiting Ashraf.”
120,000 MEK/PMOI supporters have been massacred by this regime because they longed for FREEDOM.
Mr. President! Is wishing for FREEDOM and standing for it, a “terrorist” act?
In 2009, we cried out for regime change in Tehran’s streets. The Iranian people were looking for the courageous gestures from the US President and the UN that is expected from them. Our ideal has always been to see a free and democratic Iran that will contribute to peace and coexistence in the region. The clerical regime ruling Iran and the US labeled us as terrorists. The same tag was used as a pretext for the latest bloodbath in Camp Ashraf, where my son and 3400 other pro-democracy activists live.
As you know, the forces of Nouri Maliki attacked Camp Ashraf in April 2011 and killed 36 residents and wounded hundreds of others. No investigation has yet been launched by any international organization, including the UN.
Maliki has set the December 31st deadline for the closure of Ashraf. He is obstructing all UNHCR efforts to register my son and his friends, and he is using the deadline to pave the way for a Srebrenica style bloodbath.
Mr. President! You will receive Maliki at the Oval Office on December 12th. Maliki is under investigation for crime against humanity.
President Obama,
Any displacement of my son and his friends inside Iraq without US or UN providing protection, even the one with “flexibility”, is tantamount to sending them to their deaths.
You can impel Maliki to revoke the deceptive plot of displacing Ashraf residents inside Iraq.

Dear Secretary General Ban Ki-moon,
You can save the 3400 defenseless residents and prevent another Srebrenica by assigning UN blue helmet forces to Camp Ashraf.
The clock is ticking! Act NOW before it is too late!
