Iraqi Vice President Dr. Tareq al-Hashemi issued a statement following startling revelations made by former Syrian ambassador to Iraq Nawas Fars who departed Bashar Assad’s ranks.
Excerpts of this statement are as follows:
“Ambassador Nawas Fars told the world very clearly that Nouri Maliki knows quite well how many Iraqis have been murdered by Bashar al-Assad. This ambassador has many important secrets, evidence that sheds light on the Assad-Maliki coalition against the Iraqi people… In the name of one of the thousands of victims, including my brother Amer, Mahmoud and Meisoun, I demand from Maliki to stand before the Iraqi people and public opinion and answer the truth about his relations with Assad, and say why he covered up the crimes commited by the Syrian regime all these years.”
Dr. Tareq al-Hashemi continues in this statement: “I remind the Iraqi people and public opinion to read and become informed of the issues published in the WikiLeaks website regarding the involvement of Maliki and his inner circle in the murder of Iraqis. On this issue, I also refer to Barzani’s remarks made a few months ago where he has said the person who kills Shiites is Maliki himself and his inner circle. Barzani had stressed he has undeniable evidence to prove this which will be delivered at a proper time.”
This statement adds: “There is no doubt that anyone who becomes informed of Maliki’s report card during the 1970’s and 80’s, will notice his fingerprints in terrorist attacks in Beirut, Kuwait, Baghdad and other cities. Therefore, his actions now when he is in power are of no surprise.”
Dr. Tareq al-Hashemi stresses in his statement: “The recent remarks made by Ambassador Nawas Fars are an enormous and very serious embarassment, and the international community, especially the United Nations, Arab League and Islamic Cooperation Council and all Arab leaders and UN Security Council permanent members must be informed of the details. It is also necessary for the Iraqiya Coalition to impeach Maliki on this subject because this issue is related to hundreds of thousands of Iraqi victims.”
