Al Arabiya TV reported the Iraqi National Tribal Council described Camp Liberty near Baghdad airport, where nearly 400 members of the opposition People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran have transferred to as a prison, not a residential area.
“Despite Maliki’s government insisting on expelling PMOI members from Iraq, a number of Iraqi political figures are against this deportation and insist they should be assisted,” Al Arabiya TV said.
“I believe the right thing to do is for this organization to remain in Iraq because Iraq is faced with the threat of the Iranian regime and this organization must be a barrier against the Iranian regime,” said Iraqi MP Tala al-Zobaie from the Iraqiya Coalition.
“According to the UN, this agreement protects the members of this organization until their complete exit from Iraq, and therefore their 30 year presence on Iraqi soil must come to an end,” Al Arabiya TV added. “This organization has robbed the Iranian regime of its sleep.”
